It’s
in the very nature of our sin to keep God at a distance. Adam and Eve’s
catastrophic failure revealed the naked truth and distorted their relationship
with God. Instead of running to God and boldly confessing their disobedience,
they tried to cover themselves and hide from God.
This
idea of hiding or distancing from God comes from a one-sided perspective of
God’s nature. We hide as a testimony to our disbelief in the mercy that
triumphs over judgment and the loving chastisement of a concerned Father.
The
original couple are not the only ones to hide. Many in Scripture have run from
God and developed elaborate cover stories to justify their disobedience.
We can
hide from God based on irrational fear or we can be hidden in Christ because we
have the rightful respect for His power and nature.
Colossians 3:
You Have Been Raised Up With Christ. So, Think About
Things That Are In Heaven. That Is Where Christ Is. He Is Sitting At God’s Right
Hand. 2 Think About Things That Are In Heaven. Don’t Think
About Things That Are Only On Earth. 3 You Died. Now Your Life
Is Hidden With Christ In God. 4 Christ Is Your Life. When He
Appears Again, You Also Will Appear With Him In Heaven’s Glory.
Hiding
from God or hidden in Christ?
