Sen. Cruz: Dems are ‘the party of open borders’

Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) railed against the Democratic party for its open border policies. He appeared on the Ingraham Angle Wednesday to call them “the party of open borders.” While illegal migration surges, Democrat majority leader Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) is calling deportations “hateful and xenophobic.” Meanwhile Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) demands that congress eliminate funding for Customs and Border Protection, Immigration and Customs Enforcement and the Department of Homeland Security.

First, the Texas Senator expressed his desire to do more for the southern border. Especially since the surge of more than 16,000 migrants arrived at the Del Rio International Bridge this past week alone.

“The Senate could do a great deal, but we are not going to because there is not a single Democrat who is willing to work with us to secure the border,” Cruz explained. “Today’s Democrats have decided they are the party of open borders.”

However, when it comes to local Democrat lawmakers, they do not share the same sentiment. In fact, they would rather see a more secure border. Cruz said he’s visited many of these border towns. “You know, most of the local elected officials in south Texas are Democrats. That’s long been Democratic area of the state. I have to tell you, every elected Democrat I met with was so horrified by what is happening at the border, they said to me over and over again, they said, ‘Listen, if the Democratic Party is the party of open borders, count me out. I can’t support this.’ It is an unfolding disaster.”

Still, the Democrats in Congress aren’t hearing what their constituents in border states have to say about it. “And yet today’s Washington Democrats, there’s not a single one of them who cares,” Cruz said. “Joe Biden won’t go down to the border. Kamala Harris won’t go down to the border, the Rio Grande Valley, she won’t go to Del Rio. They insist these problems are not happening and this lawlessness — we are already at 1.2 million illegal immigrants, we’re on a path to 2 million illegal immigrants. And as long as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris refuse to apply the law, it will keep getting worse.”

Vice President Kamala Harris last visited El Paso, Texas in June.
